Cambridgeshire - Salary circa £38,000
A leading developer of polymer based technology is seeking an Analytical Chemistry Scientist for their site in Cambridgeshire.
JOB PURPOSE
To collaborate with the research teams to progress projects through multi-instrumental characterisation of materials, coupled with high-quality analysis, interpretation, and reporting. To identify where analytical techniques can help to solve problems, and either develop methods in-house or identify open innovation partners or external providers to supply the required analysis.
MAIN ACTIVITIES
• Strong practical contribution to analysis of purity and material properties; method development, maintenance, data collection, training and supervision of new users.
• Characterisation of small molecule and polymer systems to a high standard, to agreed timescales, with high quality documentation and reporting within the project context.
• Identification and development of new methods or techniques to improve current characterisation methods from concept to delivery.
• Routine analysis as required.
• Write, initiate, adapt and follow analytical procedures and protocols.
• Preparation of results in a timely and accurate manner in the required format (written, verbal and/or formal presentation).
• Training of others on Analytical Equipment as required.
KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED
Essential
• Degree and PhD, or equivalent work experience, in chemistry, chemical analysis, or a related subject.
• Expertise in characterisation of materials and identification of impurities by liquid chromatographic techniques, including LC-MS and HPLC.
• Good understanding of the theoretical background to analytical techniques.
• Experience of detailed interpretation of analytical chemistry results and data to draw clear conclusions and make recommendations.
Desirable
• Experience with other analytical techniques, for example, GC-MS; FT-IR; PLQY; UV-VIS; GPC; DSC; Electrochemistry; SEM/EDS; DSC; NMR.
• Additional experience in a material science or analytical role in industry or a relevant Post-Doctoral position.
• Experience of characterisation of a wide variety of materials.
